NTK Condemns Minister's Remark on Impossibility of Setting Up Rubber Industrial Park
Nagercoil: Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) has expressed strong condemnation following remarks made by Forest Minister Raja Kannappan regarding the establishment of a rubber industrial park in Kanyakumari district. During an inspection of the Government Rubber Corporation, the minister reportedly told reporters that such a park is not feasible and expressed difficulty even in paying existing staff. Maria Jennifer, the coordinator of the NTK State Women's Wing, issued a statement calling the minister's response 'arrogant' and 'disappointing.' She highlighted that setting up a rubber industrial park is a long-standing demand of the Kanyakumari people to create employment opportunities. The statement also compared this to a previous instance where Law Minister Raghupathi dismissed the need for a law college in the district, despite DMK's electoral promises. NTK alleged that the government's actions, including transferring rubber corporation lands to the forest department and threatening protesting workers, suggest a planned destruction of the public sector corporation to benefit private interests. The party demanded a proper explanation from the government and urged for the realization of the rubber industrial park project.
