Kunjan Nadar Memorial Day: Naam Tamilar Katchi State Administrator Maria Jennifer Honors with Garland

Nagercoil, Aug. 20 - To honor the memorial day of Kunjan Nadar, one of the most important leaders who protected the Kanyakumari soil, the southern border of Mother Tamil Nadu, state and district administrators and volunteers led by Naam Tamilar Katchi state administrator Maria Jennifer paid their respects by garlanding his statue.

Following that, Maria Jennifer stated: Kunjan Nadar fought for Tamil rights against various forms of oppression in the Travancore princely state. Due to the immense love people had for him, he was elected as an independent member of the Travancore-Cochin Legislative Assembly in 1952. He roared in the Malayalam-dominated assembly against the tyranny of Pattom Thanu Pillai. Through his powerful revolutionary speeches, he instilled a sense of ethnic liberation in Tamil youth.

When primary leaders like Marshal Nesamony were imprisoned, he stood at the forefront of the Tamil liberation struggle and continued to lead protests. On the most important day of the Travancore struggle, August 11, 1954, he led the Tamil Liberation Day procession. On that day, he fought with blood dripping, refusing to yield to police repression and lathi charges. He concluded by saying, 'Let us cherish the memory of Aiyya Kunjan Nadar, the commander of the Southern Border Struggle.'
