Kanyakumari NTK Candidate Maria Jennifer Promises Virtual Research Center to Protect Kumari's Heritage

Kanyakumari NTK Candidate Maria Jennifer Promises Virtual Research Center to Protect Kumari's Heritage

Maria Jennifer, the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) candidate for the Kanyakumari assembly constituency, conducted an intensive door-to-door campaign gathering votes. Speaking to the public, she addressed the neglect of historical monuments by current rulers, citing the improper desilting work at the Suchindram Temple tank which led to the collapse of its ancient walls. She noted that NTK had previously taken legal action regarding this issue, leading to the cancellation of the contractor's license and a court order to restore the walls using original stones under the supervision of experts.

She emphasized that Kanyakumari is a land rich in diverse spiritual and cultural traditions, including Saivism, Vaishnavism, the Ayyavazhi movement, Christianity, and Islam. She promised that if elected, she would set up a Virtual Research Center to document all such ancient elements and identify neglected historical sites—such as stone pillars and inscriptions—to be officially recognized as heritage monuments. Furthermore, she pledged to develop a historical tourism infrastructure and ensure that restoration of ancient temples and tanks is done scientifically to preserve their antiquity. She concluded by stating that under NTK rule, Kanyakumari would be declared the 'Virtual Capital' of Tamil Nadu.
