Maria Jennifer, the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) candidate for the Kanyakumari assembly constituency, conducted an election campaign in the Kulathur area. During her door-to-door campaign and street meetings, she stated that while Kanyakumari is famous for deep-sea fishing, seafood processing and value-addition activities like making pickles and dried fish remain small-scale cottage industries. Because of this, the next generation is losing interest in the sector. She promised that her party's 'Dream Kanyakumari' action plan includes establishing an industrial park for seafood production. This initiative aims to process local fish, add value to seafood products, and market them globally through exports. She emphasized that the NTK government would implement futuristic industrial policies to integrate these scattered activities into a major industry, thereby securing employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth. She concluded by saying the perception that the marine industry is only about catching and selling fish will change.
