While campaigning in Thovalai and surrounding areas for the Kanyakumari assembly constituency, Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate Maria Jennifer sought votes for the 'Farmer' symbol. She noted that Thovalai is famous for flower production and is home to a massive flower market, especially supplying flowers to Kerala during Onam. She pointed out that currently, the region only focuses on primary activities like flower picking and tying. She proposed establishing an industrial park to produce value-added products such as perfumes, cosmetics, and medicinal products from local flowers. This plan aims to create employment opportunities so that local youth can work with pride in their own land. She stated that as Kannauj is known as the perfume capital in Uttar Pradesh, she will strive to make Thovalai the fragrance capital of Tamil Nadu.
