Constituency Development Fund for Innovative Projects: NTK Candidate Maria Jennifer Assures
Maria Jennifer, the Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate for the Kanyakumari assembly constituency, campaigned yesterday in various parts of the constituency. During her door-to-door campaign, she distributed pamphlets and requested votes. Speaking to the public, she addressed the utilization of the Constituency Development Fund (MLACDS). She pointed out that sitting MLAs often boast about building bus shelters, community halls, or high-mast lamps using their funds, which she considers a way to deceive the public. She argued that funds for Anganwadis, school buildings, and health centers should be secured from the respective government departments (Health, Education, etc.) rather than exhausting the MLA fund. She criticized the practice of building simple bus shelters with MLA funds just to engrave their names for publicity. Instead, she suggested obtaining funds from the Rural Development or Highways departments for such structures. If elected, she promised to use the MLA fund for innovative upgrades that are not covered in the general budget, such as smart classrooms, solar panels, and specialized facilities for the disabled in schools. She emphasized that the people need an MLA with foresight and scientific thinking to ensure world-class infrastructure.
