Case Seeking Removal of Liquor Shop Closed

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday ordered the closure of a case seeking the removal of a government liquor shop. Solomon Deepak, a resident of Kanyakumari district, had filed a petition stating that a government liquor shop was established on the Marungoor-Amaravathi road in violation of regulations, causing significant inconvenience to the public and motorists.

Upon hearing the petition, the court had previously directed the authorities to examine the matter and file a report. When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday before Justices G. Jayachandran and K.K. Ramakrishnan, the government counsel submitted that the Zonal Manager of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) had conducted an inspection. Following this, the shop in question was closed, and a decision was made to relocate it to a new site that does not cause public disturbance. Accepting this submission, the judges closed the case as the petitioner's grievance had been addressed.
