Kanyakumari, Aug 25: Maria Jennifer, the State Coordinator of the Naam Tamilar Katchi Women's Wing, released a statement regarding the Union Government's Environmental Impact Assessment Authority granting permission to ONGC for hydrocarbon wells in 20 locations across Ramanathapuram. She expressed that this move is deeply shocking as it poses a major threat to both ecology and the livelihoods of the people. Jennifer criticized the Union Government for attempting to impose this project on the land without conducting any public hearings or gathering people's opinions. She also noted that this seems to be a precursor to occupying the entire coastline of Tamil Nadu from Chennai to Kanyakumari. Furthermore, she questioned the silence of the State Government, suggesting their inaction might imply complicity. She urged the State Government to take a strong stand against the people-hostile and ecology-hostile project. She concluded by stating that the party will organize mass protests and stand with the people on the ground until these destructive projects are completely driven away.
